The latest CD by the PSU Chamber Choir, "Into Unknown Worlds" has been nominated for the Best Classical Album CARA Award (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award). Only four classical albums were nominated, the other three of which were produced by professional European choirs:
The CARA Awards date back to 1992 and since then only two other student albums have been nominated for this award: The Concordia Choir in 1998 and the PSU Chamber Choir's previous album "A Drop in Ocean" in 2013.
"Into Unknown Worlds" was also named a "Recording to Die For" by Stereophile Magazine in their February, 2015 issue - another distinction never before given to a student choir - and was named listed in the "Top Five Classical Albums of the Year" by Oregon ArtsWatch:
Founded in 1975, The Portland State Chamber Choir has a broad national and international reputation, having won awards in five separate international competitions including becoming the first ever American choir to win the Seghizzi International Competition for Choral Singing in 2013.
